I’m Amy, a writer, researcher and reviewer with a passion for discovering interesting history and exploring the fascinating literary and artistic side of life. I decided to start this blog in the summer of 2022 to construct a creative outlet to express my thoughts, feelings and interests in the arts, literary and cultural world.
My passion is to discover more about the past and delve deeper into topics taught during my education at school and university. I have developed a curiosity and fascination with History and English literature through study and personal hobbies. I enjoy reading many different genres of literature such as classics, fantasy, historical fiction and romance. In particular, I enjoy analysing the way literature acts as a mirror to the real world through metaphors, plots and characters that help us interpret the complex emotions of everyday life. Due to this, reading has helped me generated a lot of opinions on characters, plots and villains, but I never have anyone to share these burning thoughts and discussions with…until now!
During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, I began studying for a MA degree in Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture (2021). My degree opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes running of cultural institutions, and I have developed a critical eye when approaching exhibitions and other sites. Due to this insight, I have desired to create a space where I can interpret and analyse my thoughts and experiences of these cultural institutions insightfully.
Mission and Vision
This is a creative space that inspires readers to explore the past, literature, and arts in a meaningful way. I write and research imaginative content that explores history, exhibitions, museums, galleries and tourist attractions and, of course my favourite to not-so-favourite books.
Why history and fiction?
History is an eclectic mix of political upheaval, social unrest and war, but what is overlooked is social history and inventions of objects and items that we take for granted without thinking about where these ideas originated. The light bulb or the cake tin did not just magically happen, but there were people, events and stories that helped those inventions come to fruition. I am fascinated by British social history in the nineteenth and early twentieth century and the lesser-known topics that give an insight into the past and inspire readers to look beyond the dominant narratives to discover a world that has shaped our everyday lives. Literature and History are stories that help the reader understand the world, emotions and events that enrich our personalities, thoughts and actions.
If you want to learn about an eclectic mix of events, places, and stories in history and the fictional world, then this is the place for you. I write from an honest, critical and absorbing perspective.
