The first book ends on a massive cliff hanger with Elara descending the kingdom in complete darkness and Enzo the now King of Helios lost in the Dreamlands without a tether. His body is asleep in Helios, while his conscious roams. Elara vows to wake and save her soulmate. Fallen Stars begins with Elara quest to save Enzo, while her magic is fighting against her – will she be able to conquer the darkness within her to save her soulmate? This book features deadly bargains with Stars, epic fights and sizzling tension. A star stunning romantasy and a worthy sequel to Heavenly Bodies.
After finishing Heavenly Bodies I couldn’t wait to read the next in the series, Fallen Stars, and it did not disappoint. The plot twists were intricately woven and while some I did figure out, others I didn’t expect. I really enjoyed the multi-pov between Elara, Merissa and Adrian and how this added context to the story and gave the plot further dimension. I did feel at times the pace slowed and then picked up again, but I couldn’t put it down. I was constantly telling myself one more chapter before I put it down again. I enjoyed Adrian’s part in the story and how he was well rounded and added a lot of relief to tense moments, and I adored the back and forth between him and Enzo. I liked how Elara’s character and powers develop and she is constantly trying to figure out who she is and who she has been. I enjoyed the moments where Elara discovers more about being the Moon and Enzo as the Sun. Imani Erriu beautifully describes the world and new locations that transports the reader to Celestia. I also enjoyed how the reader doesn’t know who to truly trust and adds this mystery of who the Dark is and how even Ariete, the god of war, is terrified of it. I can’t wait to see how this new villain interacts with Elara and her friends.
That being said, some parts of the world building felt a little muddled and were a lot to understand in large chunks. I did like how the world was slowly being expanded as Elara and her friends travel to various locations and the readers gets snippets of a world outside of Helios and Asteria. I also liked the inclusion of other Stars like Eli and how he integrated with Elara and her friends. I am slightly annoyed at the cliff hanger and the fact that I will have to wait another year for the next book. I absolutely devoured this book and can’t wait to see where the story goes next, I think the story has only just begun with more twists and turns in the works. Fallen Stars is a twisty star stunning sequel to Heavenly Bodies with tension and adventure that will leave readers wanting more.
