Recipe Review: Miraculous Cat Noir Cookies

Magazine recipes are always hit or miss for me based on past experience, a failed gingerbread house is the first thing that comes to mind. I was filled with so much excitement one Christmas at the prospect of making a gingerbread house and the magazine also provided the cookie cutters to make the process easier. However, the dough was not a good consistency and I ended up making my own batch with my tried and tested gingerbread recipe.

Nonetheless, I had a good feeling about this recipe…turns out it was probably indigestion!

🐾 CAT NOIR COOKIES 🐾

I tried making these Cat Noir Cookies from one of my favourite tv shows ‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’ featured in the Miraculous magazine. I love to bake and love Cat Noir, so why not combine the two! See video below for recipe.

This recipe was basic and easy to follow for its primary target audience of children. The recipe was featured in the Miraculous magazine that I purchased a few moths ago. The biscuit dough was a basic shortbread recipe, but it didn’t call to use vanilla essence, which I thought was an odd choice. I did use a teaspoon of vanilla to give the biscuit a little bit more of a chance of being good. I made the dough by creaming the butter and sugar together and then adding the egg. All was going well until I added the flour. In my opinion, I think there was too much flour. This was a strong texture and taste in the final product. I first attempted to mix the flour and dough with a wooden spoon but failed, so I used my hands (washed, of course). This was a better technique but very messy and very greasy. It was a very hot day when I made this recipe so maybe the butter melted too much when I was mixing the dough.

Cookies, Assemble!

The recipe then called to divide the mixture into two bowls – one would be the vanilla base and the other would be used as at the chocolate paw prints for Cat Noir’s claws. This is when disaster happened. I should have measured an equal amount or used less dough for the chocolate. I had a lot of left over chocolate biscuit dough. To one of the doughs, I added the cocoa powder – there was far too much cocoa powder. The recipe called for 50g but half would have been enough. By this point, I had made the cookies and they looked pretty decent, despite the carnage I had caused in the kitchen – cocoa powder was everywhere! I admit I am not the tidiest when baking, but this really hit another level.

The dough was still very ‘wet’ and slimy so I decided – as per usual biscuit making recipes – to place the dough in the fridge for 30 mins to help the dough firm up. Disclaimer: the recipe didn’t include this step. The dough firmed up so I placed them into a pre-heated oven for 10 mins. The vanilla base should have turned a golden brown, but I didn’t get that with mine – but they were definitely baked. I let the cookies cool for a while until tucking in.

Thoughts?

Verdict? a weird texture, very claggy and dry. They had a texture of eating flour. I think the cookies could have been thicker with less cocoa powder. But they looked very cool and gave the fun aesthetic of cat claws. This is a fun activity for fans of Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir. The recipe was basic but didn’t taste great, albeit I did change a few things and it was a very hot day in my kitchen. Why not give this a go and see what happens?
